LEED® standards recognize four levels of performance—Certification, Silver, Gold and Platinum— based upon the extent to which environmentally sustainable construction practices are employed. In late May 2011, the nation’s largest Platinum-rated residential facility will open on the University of Colorado’s Boulder Campus, and Legacy will have helped make Green Building history.
Working with the University of Colorado and City of Boulder in a design/build capacity, Legacy team members are thoroughly enjoying this innovative engagement. The six-story, 500-bed “smart” dorm features a solar-heated domestic hot water system plus a gray-water recovery system for toilet waste removal. Legacy is responsible for all MEP design and modeling, as well as the fabrication and installation of all plumbing, mechanical, sheet metal and hydronics.
The Williams Village North Residence Hall project marks the fourth Colorado university dormitory project in which Legacy has collaborated with general contractor Whiting Turner. Our two companies collaborated on initial Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the residence hall; BIM oversight is now in Legacy’s hands.
