Many parts of the country are once again experiencing unacceptable air quality due to numerous forest fires burning, particularly in the Western part of the country but it’s making its way across the United States all the way to the East Coast. Some cities that normally have above-average air quality have recently been listed in the top 5 for worst air quality in the world.

Many contractors, Legacy Mechanical included, have increased the amount of outside air being introduced into the buildings they maintain and have added various indoor air quality devices to help fight COVID 19 and create a healthy building. These systems are working overtime to clean the air with the extra smoke present and may need to be cleaned more frequently.

Customers should be aware that filter changes along with coil cleanings will need to be performed more often to keep HVAC systems in good working condition and avoid excess wear on the expensive equipment.

So … why does air quality matter?

Approximately 25 million Americans have asthma. That’s about 1 in 13 Americans, including 8 percent of adults and 7 percent of children. Asthma is the leading chronic disease in children. Currently there are about 5.1 million children under the age of 18 with asthma.

Frequent and thorough maintenance can help improve the comfort of these individuals and create a safer building for all.
