While everyone is concerned with the air we breathe during the current pandemic, we cannot forget or get lax on the other items that can affect our health or could be fatal with the air we breathe.

Now that colder temperatures are here, we are starting to turn on our heating systems and we need to stay aware that deadly carbon monoxide, also referred to as CO, could be present and not properly vented to the outside. CO is a deadly odorless gas that cannot only be found in your place of residence, office and in parking garages with idling vehicles.
In your home, you should install CO monitors equipped with batteries that are checked and changed regularly. It’s important to make sure you have the detectors mounted at a height off the floor as specified by the manufacturer.

Parking garages need to be equipped with either natural or operable mechanical means of ventilation. These mechanical systems may include sensors, alarms or motion sensors to activate exhaust fans if CO levels become dangerous.

It’s also important to have your mechanical heating systems checked by a qualified professional and licensed contractor, who will take CO readings as well as inspect your heating system to ensure it is safe. They also can inform you if there may be a danger in the future due to age or wear.
